Tell us about yourself and your organization.

I’m the Director of Public Relations and Marketing at the Valentine Richmond History Center. In my first year at the History Center, I led a comprehensive social media and marketing effort that increased visitation, visibility and memberships for the museum and its programs and tours. In addition to marketing, I facilitated and planned successful events like Richmond History Makers, Secret Garden Party and numerous exhibition openings that have had record-breaking attendance for the History Center.

Prior to the History Center, I served as the Regional Communications and Marketing Director for the American Cancer Society – South Atlantic Division, overseeing public relations strategies, marketing campaigns, social media initiatives and media partnerships for Virginia and West Virginia.

I recently joined the leadership team for the newly-founded local chapter of the Young Nonprofit Professional Network (YNPN RVA), powered by ConnectVA and HYPE.

Tell us about your biggest accomplishment in this position.

One of the first projects I was asked to do was to recruit local people to be photographed for our exhibit ?History, Ink: The Tattoo Archive Project.?  It was a huge task but I recruited local models and scheduled photo sessions and ultimately the exhibit was a huge success at the History Center.

How do you maintain your own wellness and meet the demands of work and life?

I beat burnout by exercising.  I work out a lot and have my workouts on my calendar so nobody can schedule a meeting or anything over them.  They are blocked out ahead of time.  I?m also attached to my iPhone so I?m always trying to stay ahead of emails and phone calls and posting on our social media sites while I?m on-the-go.

What exciting projects are on the horizon?

Our annual Richmond History Makers call for nominations opens up on May 1 and that?s always exciting to see the nominations coming in and for us to recognize those unsung heroes in our community that are making history today.  I?m also excited about our upcoming renovations that will begin on November 1 and we?ll be opening with fabulous new exhibits that showcase our collection and Richmond?s 400 years of history.
