GE GhostRed is a finalist for ConnectVA’s Innovation in Community Impact Award offered in collaboration with RichTech. Learn how they’re creating a lasting impact through technology-based learning opportunities for high school and college students across the Greater Richmond Region.
What is GE GhostRed?
GE (General Electric) GhostRed is a team of 15 volunteer engineers and IT professionals that have come together to build and deliver a hands on technology experience to high school and college students.
Our mission is simple:
- Connect teachers to professionals thus reshaping technology education
- Build excitement about technology through gamification
- Cultivate learning opportunities through hands on experiences
- Empower technical careers through entry level opportunities
- Socialize today’s talent with tomorrow’s technology
How are you offering innovative technology solutions to students in our community?
Over the past few years the team has been able to grow from just a handful of helpers hosting 10-20 students at our GE facility into a program now partnering with Richmond’s own Math, Science and Innovation center inviting 42 local high schools to our next competition on May 30th.
The team has developed nearly 60 different challenges as a part of our educational competition focusing on areas such as programming, digital forensics, networking, penetration testing and system administration. These categories are designed to reflect the needs of our industry.
How are you making an impact in our community?
In the short 4 years that the program has existed, we have been able to reach hundreds of students who have connected with industry mentors, pursued careers in technology, and built foundational knowledge for practicing safe use of technology.
