Amazing Raise 2014: Recap & Results

This year’s Amazing Raise, sponsored by The Community Foundation Serving Richmond and Central Virginia, was bigger and better than ever before!  In its fourth year, the event surpassed last year’s gift totals by 13% and dollars raised by nearly 12%.

Through the generosity of individuals in the region, across the nation and around the world, the Amazing Raise generated 20,421 gifts and over $1.74 million for 522 local charities in just 36 hours!

Although the majority of donations came from the Richmond metro region, gifts came in from all 50 states for the first time ever! The Richmond Symphony alone received donations from all states and earned the Nifty 50 Prize worth $1,000. Outside the USA, individuals in 18 different countries gave during the 36-hour event. Out of the 619 participating organizations, 522 received at least one donation and 114 received more than 50.

The Community Foundation, along with several individual and business sponsors, contributed a prize pool of $180,000 to incentivize giving throughout the event. Organizations held early morning coffees, cocktail hours, yoga marathons and even competed for video prizes before the event.

When The Amazing Raise began, alarms rang throughout the region before sunrise as organizations sought to take advantage of the 50/50 Early Bird Challenge starting at 6 a.m. Wednesday.  All 15 early bird prizes were determined in just over 10 minutes.
